February 2014

Ben's always looking out for Nate

For those of you that are new to our blog, we are currently catching everyone up to speed and this post will get you to February of 2014. We have a long way to go to get to present day, but it's important to us that you know our back story and how we got to where we are today. If you are new, you may want to start from the beginning so you don't feel lost. Thank you for joining us on our journey!

Well, my goal to get everyone to present day did not happen! December was an incredibly busy month in this house. Between Nate's set of appointments, Benjamin's birthday, and the holidays, this Mama did not have much time to sit at the computer to reflect. But, here I am, back at it and hoping you're back too!

February of 2014 was full of colds and illnesses in the Sykes' household. Nathan and I were pretty much sick on and off the entire month. Nate's adenoidectomy and ear tube placement could not come fast enough! Despite this, we were still able to throw some fun times in there. Benjamin and I enjoyed our Friday mornings together while Nate went to daycare. We would get a snack at Panera, go bowling, look at toys at Target, or simply stay home and play. He even enjoyed his first movie theater experience: The Lego Movie!
It was such a gift to be able to spend one on one time with my oldest; that time is short sometimes after a second child comes along so I was loving every minute!
Ben loved the movie!
Ben loves the snow!

Nate says get me out of here!
Nate is much more comfortable away from the snow!

a little indoor fun with frosting!

We were working on two important things with Nate as well. The first was "playing" with doctor's instruments; not just the play ones either. Nate's anxiety level goes through the roof at the thought of the doctor, let alone walking into an exam room. He was mastering the stethoscope and was starting to feel comfortable with it so we purchased an otoscope to help with ear examinations. I knew this would take some time, but practice makes potential, right?  The second thing we were tackling was getting rid of the binky. Nate was nearing 2 1/2 years old and we were sick of it! Having him not use it during the day was the easy part; removing it from nap time and night time was going to prove difficult!

There's never enough practice!

We are determined to make a difference!
